WWF-India Launches Green Diwali Campaign, Urges Citizens to Avoid Firecrackers

WWF-India’s Green Diwali Campaign runs until November 8, 2026, urging citizens to avoid firecrackers, take the Green Diwali Pledge and reduce their carbon footprint.
WWF-India has launched a nationwide Green Diwali Campaign under Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), encouraging citizens to avoid firecrackers and celebrate Diwali in an environmentally responsible way. The campaign, supported by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, runs from October 20 to November 8, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the initiative will engage schools, colleges, educational institutions, resident welfare associations and local communities, with a special focus on the 130 cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

Green Diwali Pledge Encourages Sustainable Celebrations
As part of the campaign, citizens are encouraged to take the Green Diwali Pledge and motivate their family members and neighbours to avoid firecrackers. The initiative also recommends using traditional diyas and energy-efficient lights, avoiding single-use plastics, segregating waste and choosing locally made products.
Schools, colleges and community organisations are encouraged to conduct pledge-taking activities during assemblies, classroom sessions, rallies and community meetings to spread awareness about environmentally responsible celebrations.
Citizens Encouraged to Check Their Carbon Footprint
The campaign also invites citizens to complete WWF-India’s Carbon Footprint Survey. The survey aims to help people understand how their everyday activities and consumption habits affect their environmental footprint and identify opportunities to adopt more sustainable practices.
