AI Data Centre Liquid Cooling – Vertiv Mumbai 2026

Vertiv has completed a high-density liquid-cooling deployment at CapitaLand India Trust’s Mumbai data centre, designed to support 30 MW of AI workloads. The project highlights how advanced cooling technology is becoming essential as Indian data centres prepare for more powerful AI computing systems.

Vertiv Deploys 30 MW Liquid-Cooling System for AI Data Centre in Mumbai

30 MW AI Infrastructure Gets Advanced Cooling

India’s data-centre industry is adopting advanced cooling technology as artificial intelligence workloads demand more computing power and generate greater amounts of heat. Vertiv announced on October 16, 2026, that it had completed a high-density direct-to-chip liquid-cooling deployment at CapitaLand India Trust’s CLDC Mumbai 01 data centre in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. The system is designed to support 30 MW of AI workloads for an unnamed hyperscale customer. Vertiv describes the project as India’s first deployment of this type, marking a notable development in the country’s AI infrastructure market.

How Direct-to-Chip Liquid Cooling Works

Traditional data centres largely depend on air-conditioning systems to manage server heat. However, high-density AI servers and specialised computing chips produce substantial heat within compact spaces. Direct-to-chip cooling addresses this challenge by circulating coolant through a closed-loop system that carries heat away from components close to the processors. Vertiv’s Secondary Fluid Network system connects the facility’s cooling infrastructure to the technology cooling loop. This approach is designed to support demanding computing environments where conventional air cooling alone may face limitations. The company says the system was manufactured, tested and commissioned for the project.

Why This Matters for Enterprise AI

Businesses are investing in generative AI, advanced analytics and large-scale computing, increasing demand for data centres that can handle intensive workloads. Cooling is an important part of that infrastructure because excessive heat can affect equipment reliability, operating conditions and computing performance. The Mumbai deployment demonstrates the growing role of specialised thermal-management systems in AI-ready facilities. Potential beneficiaries of such infrastructure include cloud providers, large enterprises, technology platforms and hyperscale operators. However, the announcement does not disclose the customer’s identity, project cost or independently measured energy savings, so those benefits should not be assumed.

Indian Data Centres Prepare for Higher Computing Density

Vertiv worked with CapitaLand Investment on the project, including installation procedures, coolant-loop balancing and testing before deployment. The company also developed production capabilities for manufacturing customised technology-loop equipment to support projects of this scale and future demand. The development reflects a broader shift in data-centre design: operators must plan for power, cooling, network connectivity and reliability together rather than treating them as separate requirements. As AI adoption grows in India, liquid cooling could become an increasingly important part of new high-density data-centre projects. The scale of future adoption will depend on costs, engineering requirements and the needs of individual operators.
