Record quarterly sales fail to prevent a profit decline amid higher raw-material expenses

Maruti Suzuki is considering further price increases as rising input costs squeeze profitability. The company reported record quarterly sales for the July–September period, but its profit fell year-on-year.

Higher costs weigh on profitability

Maruti Suzuki is looking at further price increases at an appropriate time as higher raw-material costs put pressure on margins, Reuters reported on October 27. The company had already increased prices on selected models by up to ₹20,000 in September.

For the quarter ended September 2026, Maruti Suzuki reported sales of 696,654 vehicles, up 26.5% year-on-year. Revenue rose 26% to ₹53,340 crore, while profit declined 27% to ₹2,415 crore, according to the report.

Demand remains strong

The figures indicate that demand has remained healthy, supported by festive-season buying and improved affordability following tax changes. However, strong sales do not necessarily translate into higher profits when commodity and production costs rise.

Reuters reported that the company had approximately 200,000 pending bookings and around 17 days of inventory across its dealer network. Planned capacity additions from January are expected to help the company respond to demand.

What car buyers should watch

Any new price revision could affect the on-road cost of selected models. The impact will depend on which vehicles are affected, the size of the increase and whether dealers offer discounts or other benefits.

Customers planning a purchase should request a written quotation showing the ex-showroom price, insurance, registration, accessories and any applicable offers. A booking amount should not be treated as a guarantee that a quoted price will remain unchanged unless the terms clearly state so.

Market Perspective

Maruti Suzuki's results highlight a central challenge for automakers: balancing high sales volumes with commodity costs, pricing power and profitability. If demand stays strong, manufacturers may have greater scope to revise prices, but aggressive increases could make entry-level vehicles less affordable for price-sensitive households.

No universal price hike for every Maruti Suzuki model should be assumed from the company's reported plans. Buyers should verify model-specific announcements with authorised dealers.
